Responsibilities

FINANCIAL STATEMENT REPORTING (40%)

  • Performs monthly and quarterly financial analyses and reconciliations to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and timeliness of reporting. Makes day to day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment of financial transactions

  • Responsible for many monthly journal entries in UR Financials, including high dollar adjustments that are often discussed at P&L meeting with CFO

  • Develop, lead and coordinate monthly ledger account reconciliation process

Year-end financial statement preparation including:

  • Preparing the hospital's 30 and 60-day EOP liability analyses, which get sent to the CFO for review prior to incorporation into the year-end financial statements that are reviewed by external auditors

  • Preparation of functional expense footnote

  • Coordinates support and is main contact for annual external audit requests, including:

  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with auditors

  • Ensuring required schedules are available for auditors prior to beginning of audit fieldwork

  • Completing various audit workpapers

  • Providing University Finance schedules for inclusion in University's audited statements

OPERATING BUDGET PROCESS/MONITORING (50%)

  • Participates in annual operating budget process at Strong, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Reviews selected budget kits and prepares budget materials for selected department hearings with senior management, including large, complex clinical departments

  • Works directly with program administrators while reviewing and developing budgets

  • Assists with review of budget/FTE modifications as well as preparing necessary modifications for mid-year new or expanded business improvement plans to enhance financial performance of the hospital

  • Coordinates and manages monthly departmental attestation process, including following up on significant variances to budget on a monthly basis

  • On a daily basis, review and approve departmental personnel change and requisition forms through verification of authorized and actual FTE levels, review of impact on operating budget, and follow up with departments to obtain and review supporting analysis when necessary

  • Assists Sr. Financial Analyst with reviewing and testing Axiom (budget system) upgrades as they occur

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)

  • Coordinates and completes various external surveys including: AHA, COTH, AAMC, census and various others

  • Creates and distributes customer invoices out of UR Financials on a monthly basis for related affiliates

  • Acts as financial liaison to departments and assists in any financial issues they may have

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or MBA and 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a health care and/or University setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (strong working knowledge of Excel)

  • Keen attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving skills required

  • Critical thinking to ensure data is accurate
