8 AM-5 PMResponsibilities
Assist General Accounting Manager with the overall operations of the General Accounting Department. Conducts specialized and highly complex analysis of financial data in support of the various University Finance functions. Review and approve journals and other transactions prepared by General Accounting staff and provide direction and supervision as needed. Work collaboratively with IT and other cross functional teams and lead process improvement and automations. Develop and recommend policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness and effectiveness of accounting and financial information in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Provides oversight of the maintenance of the general ledger chart accounts in UR Financial system. Plans, organizes and directs the daily activities of assigned area. Work collaboratively with IT and other cross functional teams and lead process improvement and automations. Active participation on new system implementation and system upgrade that impacts accounting to ensure proper accounting transactions.
Participate in the UR Financials month-end and year-end period close procedures. Perform analyses of financial statement balances and general ledger activity. Review and approve financial transactions within UR Financial system to ascertain data integrity and accuracy.
Perform financial analysis, investigate errors, and tests necessary to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and timeliness of reporting. Use independent judgement to makes day-to-day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment of various financial transactions. Perform and or review account reconciliations as needed.
Recommends and implements objectives, plans and programs operating procedures to enhance services of the area. Develops reports, mechanisms and controls to evaluate activities and monitor effectiveness to ensure needs and objectives are being met. Provides consultation relative to systems.
Assist with design and implementation of new systems. Develop and lead training program related to the general accounting functions.
Assist General Accounting Manager develop, monitor, communicate, and interpret policies and procedures to the University community.
Assist with annual audit requests as needed.
Serves as backup to General Accounting Manager.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required
Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
4 years of related experience required
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
Leadership, communication, management, collaborations, Analytical, critical thinking, MS Excel, accounting system required
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) desirable
