Position Summary:

The position will deliver specialized and highly complex financial and analytical support to the Director, Finance and Regulatory and Clinical Trials Office (CTO) Leadership at the Wilmot Cancer Institute (WCI). The Financial Analyst will develop and produce routine summary financial reports (trend reports, etc.) required to monitor the financial health of CTO. Responsible for preparing trial specific budgets, plans, and trend reports as needed. Work closely with CTO Leadership to initiate, develop, monitor and communicate finance policies and procedures within the CTO.

Under general guidance and with latitude for exercise of independent judgment provide administrative oversight of Finance for all clinical research studies within the WCI CTO.

Supervision/Direction Received:

Director, Finance and Regulatory Affairs (FRA) System Responsibilities:

  • Manage Oncore calendar and budget process and execution, including but not limited to: Serve as the principal financial support to the CTO Pre-award Finance team; Manage portfolio of calendar builds; inclusive of internal review process; Support the Director and CTO Leadership and responsible for oversight and management of Pre-award CTO Finance team; Review and evaluate trial budgets for accuracy, identify issues and propose resolutions to financial administrators, providing guidance and training to mitigate oversights and/or concerns; Revenue and expense trends (all sources including development) reporting and monitoring

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Works in conjunction with Director FRA to assess resource needs of the CTO; hires additional/replacement staff as necessary.

  • Oversees orientation and training of all assigned staff. Develops and maintains training checklists and other documentation of core competencies.

  • Supervises all workflow and personnel related to pre-award financial activities.

  • Manages time off and cross-coverage of pre-award finance staff.

  • Identifies personnel issues as they arise and work in conjunction with the Director FRA to address.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Serves as liaison between Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA), Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS), Office of Clinical Research (OCR), Oncore, Principal Investigator (PI), Industry representatives, and collaborating academic institutions to create and manage budgets for industry supported investigator-initiated and industry-initiated research projects in all phases of clinical research for the WCI.

  • Plan and execute the required aspects of the budget management of the research project working with the PI, the CTO Director FRA, clinical study teams, industry representatives, ORPA, ORACS, and all other University and/or hospital departments.

  • Prepare and negotiate budgets to accompany contracts and subcontracts for research projects

  • Assist with contract/budget management activities such as, contract extensions and budget/contract amendments

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's preferred. Faculty practice or hospital accounting, insurance and/or clinical trial experience preferred. Prefer five year’s relevant experience including at least two years at a managerial level
