Family and Community Engagement Specialist (WCI)
Whole Child Initiative (WCI), an initiative within the ROC the Future Alliance and anchored at the Children’s Institute, will create re-imagined systems, sectors and professionals that adopt the whole-child, parent-led, anti-racist, family and community-voice centered, cross-sector way of doing business in support of children, prenatal to age 8. Whole child is a holistic approach recognizes the developmental continuum across childhood in all developmental domains: social-emotional, cognitive, physical, mental health, language, learning, spiritual and identity. By working systemically, the WCI will create: (1) Systems and providers recognize and are responsive to the agency, diversity, and strengths of all families; (2) Shared commitment to achieving a whole-child system, inclusive of parents, family, community, providers and systems; and (3) All components of the whole-child system are identified, accessible and coordinated.
The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Specialist will support the goals of the WCI, by supporting and expanding its efforts for parent leadership, decision-making and co-creation of solutions. The FACE Specialist connects with multiple sectors (i.e., housing, pediatricians and health centers, faith-based alliances, etc.) to share accomplishments and engage them in the work. The FACE Specialist can share and demonstrate learning from current/past lived experience with children (pre-natal to age 8) being served by one or more sectors involved in the WCI
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build and support relationships between WCI and key stakeholders, partners, and the community at large. Actively work with parent and community engagement efforts across institutions and sectors to drive alignment and coordination with WCI activities and objectives.
Conduct/facilitate presentations through world cafés, teach-ins, retreats, workshops, etc., to build understanding and greater alignment within our partnership network.
Facilitate consistent feedback mechanisms between parents, families, the community at large, and the WCI in order to better inform the work.
Ensure that all work is delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget; provide regular reports on progress against goals and indicators.
Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or a related field preferred
Minimum of three ( 3 ) years of experience supporting parents’ concerns in health, education or human services.
Ability to share and demonstrate learnings from current or past lived experience with children (pre-natal to age 8) being served by one or more sectors involved in the WCI.
OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated success in communicating both horizontally and vertically within the community in a way that builds authentic, trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders and community members; experience in diverse coalition-building and working in a team environment; strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
The presence to inspire confidence and passion in external audiences and to build effective relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders.
Must possess a working knowledge of the Rochester community, including but not limited to a general understanding of the various neighborhoods, schools and community-based organizations, and the assets and resources available to support them.
Ability to sift through and simplify complex information, in order to communicate it to a general audience.
Experience working with diverse groups and families, including facilitating coalitions, task forces, and/or committees.
Flexibility and the ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and social media platforms.
Practical, reliable, efficient. Turns ideas into actions and organizes tasks.
Must be a team player who is responsive to and supportive of the needs of others.
Spanish language proficiency preferred.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Holds an active NYS Driver’s License and has reliable, available transportation.
Familiarity of ROC the Future Alliance and StriveTogether network and Theory of Action and the cradle to career framework a plus, but not required.
