University of Rochester Exhibitions Assistant in Rochester, New York
Part Time 20 hours Grade 050 MAG-Exhibitions
Supports the work of the Head of Exhibitions, registrar, and curator with the planning and execution of temporary exhibitions, in particular the 2020 Judith Schaechter exhibition.
- Planning: Supports the work of the exhibitions team by planning team meetings; updating the production schedule and checklist; serving as team representative at institutional MAG meetings; serving as liaison for loans between MAG and lenders, both private and institutional; researching, writing, and editing exhibition-related text; and acting as coordinator between exhibition team and other institutional departments (facilities, marketing1 etc.) as needed.
- Administration and other: Supports the work of the exhibitions team with the loan forms, shipping, storage, customs, courier arrangements, supervision of art handling, preparation installation, storage, venue contracts, and facilities report. Prepares financial paperwork for invoices, contractual services, reimbursements, and honoraria. Performs other exhibitions- and MAG-related duties, as assigned, including participating in weekly department meetings; working MAG events on evenings and weekends, as required.
- Installation/Deinstallation: Supports the work of the exhibitions team with unpacking, packing, condition reporting, and installation of exhibitions ensuring compliance with museum best practices.
Preferred bachelor's degree with art history and/or museum studies coursework, Master's degree preferred, with an area of expertise within the museum's collection. Experience: At least 1-3 years in a museum or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Position requires attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint and collections management databases. Must be a self-starter, be able to work well with others in a busy, team-oriented office, and work independently with moderate supervision. Must be able to lift artwork and heavy objects. Valid NY driver's license and ability to utilize MAG and personal vehicles for art transport. Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion. Must be committed to MAG's mission and goals, and support MAG's Director in developing and implementing effective strategies for all aspects of the strategic plan.
