Evaluates, recommends, plans, directs, and coordinates Acute Care, Ambulatory, Revenue Cycle, Cupid, Radiant or HIM based information applications, systems and technologies for URMC hospitals (SMH, HH, FFT, Affiliates) and the Medical Faculty Group for improvement of operations, efficient use of resources and improved billing and accounts receivables. Must be very knowledgeable of organization’s policies, procedures, and business operations. Directs assigned groups, projects and activities.
Serves as primary liaison for the clinical (acute care or ambulatory) or HIM based eRecord applications/information system. Completes the functional design and directs the build of the applications, which requires obtaining and maintaining current Epic certification. Manages all phases of assigned projects and coordinates personnel and other resources as required for the completion of the project.
Is the primary support contact for the URMC hospitals (SMH, HH, FFT & affiliates) and the Medical Faculty Group.
Serves as the bridge between clinical or HIM stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the Epic implementation staff
Helps Epic staff understand our operational needs as we validate workflows and model system configuration
Coordinates all issues that arise for their application area.
Work with Epic representatives, other IT teams, and departments to ensure the system meets needs:
Understands the choices involved in application specifications
Performs in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with Epic software
Investigates preferred choices of end users
Responds to Epic’s technical questions
Analyzes business operations and implements LEAN operational improvements
Prioritizes and implement requested changes to the system
Analyzes new functionality in new releases to determine how it should be used
Directs stakeholders and SME’s in reviewing software changes
Coordinates software updates and changes
Directs the review and testing of new releases
Reviews requested enhancements
Collects information regarding potential system enhancement needs
Presents details of specifications as prepared by analysts
Analyzes data conversion needs
Develops and documents internal operational procedures to use in conjunction with Epic applications
Followes established change control processes and procedures for the system
Troubleshoots problems and questions from end users
Works with report writers to ensure that your application has the necessary reports to support Health Care Reform and and other reporting needs relative to URMC strategic initiatives.
Develops integrated strategies and workplans. Manages completion of team activities as documented on the work plan. Directs and guides the activities of assigned staff, and in conjunction with the Project Director, participates in the recruitment, staffing decisions, performance evaluations and other personnel actions.
Demonstrates effective communication and problem solving skills to meet customer needs within resource constraints.
Participates in priority setting for URMC hospitals (SMH, HH, FFT, affiliates).
Actively participates in departmental, hospital and medical center meetings and committees as assigned.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering required.
4-5 years of related experience, preferably 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Clinical or administrative experience (minimum of three years) in a health care setting, preferably within HH, SMH, FFT, Affiliate, or Ambulatory car preferred.
Strong attention to detail, ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems, and developed critical thinking skills preferred.
Ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, maintain issues lists and work to a project plan preferred.
Strong communication skills and follow-up skills preferred.
Detail-oriented and a knack for probing for information to fully understand the underlying needs of the organization and user community preferred preferred.
Works collaboratively with all project team members. Builds relationships and effectively communicates with the project team, key stakeholders, and physician practices preferred.
Works to be an ICare Champion. Displays a solid technical aptitude and has an understanding of computer systems and IT function preferred.
Some familiarity with Meaningful Use (ARRA), TJC as well as HIPAA and Billing regulations preferred.
Epic certification in related application required.
