EMG technician serving an electrodiagnostic laboratory with high patient volumes. Under the direction of the Director of the EMG Laboratory and attending physician(s), performs technically perfect, detailed motor and sensory nerve conduction and repetitive stimulation studies and performs and records nerve or muscle ultrasound images. Takes and records brief patient history, reason for referral, and documents first draft of impression in EMG report. Assures patients safety while in the lab and during the performance of testing. Interacts with patients and assists them through what can be difficult and painful testing. Obtains relevant information from patient notes in electronic records system. Attains mastery of the EMG database including import of electrophysiological data and entry of EMG and billing data. Understands the principles of nerve conduction testing and nerve and muscle ultrasound. Understands and masters the Viking EMG and Terason ultrasound machines in use in the lab, assists and teaches Fellows in performance of nerve conduction and repetitive nerve stimulation studies.
- Performs electrodiagnostic studies.
- Assists and teaches neuromuscular and clinical neurophysiology Fellows.
- Preparation of first draft of EMG report and billing utilizing eRecord and the EMG database software.
- Maintains laboratory in clean and orderly fashion.
- Keeps current with new medical developments in his/her respective field of neurophysiology.
Bachelor degree in science (prefer biology or physiology) including related laboratory experience or equivalence and /or technical training with certification by a registry of the American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (ABRET), (AAET) or (AANEM) within one year of hire. Previous experience working in a medical/health care or related setting preferred.
