ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary :
The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research and education in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate fusion and high energy density physics.
The LLE Electronics and Controls Engineering group is seeking an experienced controls engineer to take an active role supervising and building custom control systems, and be capable of interacting with a team of scientists, instrument specialists, mechanical, optical, and software engineers to develop and support custom control system solutions for cutting edge research. Additionally, the candidate will write requirements, present project reviews, and take a hands-on role in the deployment and support of these systems. The successful candidate should have a BSEE/BSEET and 5 years of experience or equivalent training and experience.
Requirements include the ability to demonstrate a theoretical and hands-on knowledge of the following:
Design, assembly, documentation, testing and troubleshooting custom control systems
PLC programming utilizing ladder logic programming
Fail-safe methods employed in system design
CAD schematic capture
High level troubleshooting skills
Strong documentation skills
Data acquisition and electrical measurement techniques
Ability to work to a budget and schedule
Provide regular progress reports to upper management
Desired skills or experience includes:
Experience in a project management role
Project budgeting and time management
Experience with cryogenic and/or vacuum systems
EPICS controls or other computer programming experience
Experience with Allen-Bradley or Beckhoff PLCs
Familiarity with EMI/EMC techniques
Mechanical aptitude
Attention to detail
Curiosity and a desire to learn new concepts, skills, and techniques
