Develops a knowledge and understanding of basic electronics, general anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy and physiology, clinical neurophysiology, and neurophysiological diagnostic procedures and protocols. Performs Electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings with required direct and/or indirect supervision as well as additional quality assurances and controls. As skill level increases; may perform complex neurophysiology procedures. Acts as a liaison between the electroencephalographer, physicians and senior technologists to coordinate, perform or provide technical assistance during complex and highly technical procedures.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Electroencephalographic (EEG) machines, photic stimulation equipment, electroencephalographic/video telemetry equipment, video cameras, video capture devices, electroencephalographic/video playback equipment, respiration monitors, electrode applicators, special electrodes, and other equipment of similar scope and complexity.
Performs routine and complex EEGs, long term epilepsy monitoring (LTM), neurotelemetry, and patient safety monitoring in the Neurophysiology Laboratory, inpatient, neonate, and intensive care units, and the operating room. Works under additional direct and/or indirect supervision and following additional quality assurances and controls if still preparing for (ABRET) EEG certification.
Takes on-call on rotation basis with other technologists.
Maintains an orderly and clean laboratory to ensure a safe work environment and the highest quality of patient care. Maintains and calibrates all laboratory medical devices. Takes inventory and orders supplies for his/her area.
Demonstrates an understanding of the principles and methodology of neurophysiology procedures, including diagnostic procedures, calibration and maintenance of equipment, and other related activities. With increased skill level, exercises a high degree of skill, judgment, and understanding of the principles and methodology of neurophysiology procedures.
Prepares patient appointment scheduling, history, encounter, and billing forms as necessary.
Participates in didactic and practical instruction, develops clinical skills, practice techniques, and learns all Neurophysiology lab operating procedures and protocols.
Participates in weekly and annual conferences and technical meetings. Presents topics as appropriate. If not yet registered, prepares for the American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (ABRET) EEG registration exam. If registered, maintains registration through obtaining CEUs and ACE credits (ASET Journals, attending credit granting lectures, and completing courses.
EEG (R.EEG T.) registration from the American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET); OR relevant training/education required to meet eligibility for EEG registration. Clinical experience preferred. Requirement to obtain EEG registration within 5 years.
