Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Academic Innovation Support Specialist provides technical guidance and support for faculty to design and develop online lessons and courses across all programs for the School of Nursing. The Academic Innovation Support Specialist will proactively build, organize and adapt interactive learning activities in Blackboard to support a multitude of courses and lessons. Collaborate with other members of the instructional design team to plan faculty development initiatives including live workshops, online training tutorials, and articles. Provides troubleshooting and problem resolution with learning management system, content, and digital technologies. Work is performed independently in conjunction with other members of the instructional design team.
Specific Responsibilities
Support faculty and students with digital and simulation educational technologies (50%)
Provide classroom support for experiential learning activities, including but not limited to collaborative learning, mobile device management, and multimedia applications.
Create and maintain support documentation and provide guidance for faculty and students on the use of materials in content management systems, eLearning software, mobile technology and other platforms and initiatives as developed and launched.
Instruct users on the operation of online and mobile learning technologies, including but not limited to, learning management software, multimedia applications, digital course materials, and communication tools such as blogs, wikis, and discussion forums through e-learning modules, workshops, or consultation.
Provides troubleshooting and problem resolution with learning management system, content, and other related issues.
Development of course content in learning management platforms (30%).
Collaborate with faculty to assess learning objectives aligned with best practices to enhance student learning outcomes.
Guide faculty with developing courses and lesson plans in accordance with online learning principles, while maintaining a consistent look and is easy to navigate.
Create links and upload documents to learning management systems in accessible formats that fit well within course navigation and organization.
Find and implement creative solutions for users with challenging educational requirements.
Find, adapt, design, implement, and maintain interactive multimedia learning objects, activities and assessments, using expert knowledge of learning resources to search for and adapt existing multimedia content or create new content, in collaboration with others, when none is available.
Advance best practices in teaching and learning (15%)
Implement best practices for course and lesson design, in collaboration with other members of the instructional design team. Includes guidelines for assessing and improving the quality of instruction.
Assess, manage and organize instructional materials ensuring courses are optimized for accessibility. Adapt text and word files to create tests, quizzes, and assignments in learning management systems.
Monitor and assess faculty and student satisfaction regarding the instructional effectiveness of current course designs, materials, and teaching strategies.
Work both independently and interdependently within a team-based model to produce desired outcomes
Participate in professional activities. (5%)
Serve on appropriate institutional, regional, and national committees or groups, as needed.
Maintain and develop proficiency in all software and hardware systems used for online instruction at the School of Nursing.
Maintain awareness of market trends in online education, including new processes and products that are being adopted by other schools locally and nationally.
Where possible virtually or physically visit other higher education online learning environments to learn and grow.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED ON THE JOB
PC and Macintosh desktops; iPads; printers, digital cameras, video cameras, scanners, and a variety of online learning software systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and 1-2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Strong ability to teach adult learners in the usage of Web-based tools/applications. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Capable of working collaboratively with faculty, staff, project leaders, and students. Ability to translate complex technical information into usable, easy-to-follow instructions. Essential personal characteristics include flexibility, initiative, creativity, and the ability and willingness to work cooperatively in an evolving technological environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2-3 years related experience. Working knowledge of learning management systems and digital technologies preferred. Experience with nursing, medical, science education, or related fields. Experience with staff training or faculty development activities.
