The Dedicated Technical Resource (DTR) is an Information Systems Division (ISD) employee who delivers focused reporting and business analysis for a specific department (“home department”). The DTR has a dual reporting structure: an ISD manager who will direct work from a technical perspective, ensuring that all ISD processes and standards are followed, and a home department manager who will train to department standards, assign, and prioritize reporting requests according to business needs.

Position works under the direction of ISD Enterprise Data Analytics (EDA) BI Development Services (BIDS) Project Director, the ISD EDA BI Embedded Program Team Lead and in collaboration with home department, eRecord training team, eRecord integrated security team and eRecord application teams.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Work with the home department to determine requirements for new reports and report enhancements.

  • Manage the work request queue, ensuring that requests are appropriately triaged and completed.

  • Coordinate with ISD and the home department to determine priorities for work to be done. Lead integrated meetings that include representatives from the home department, ISD Data & Analytics, and appropriate build team(s).

  • Drive improvements to tools and processes to support productivity in the home department.

  • Research existing reports (including Epic model reports, as well as previously developed custom reports) to determine whether a report already exists that satisfies requirements.

  • Enhance existing reports, or develop new reports, that will satisfy requirements. Thoroughly test reports, and obtain user validation.

  • Obtain and maintain required Epic certifications. Stay current with Epic upgrades.

  • Develop complex logic for reports and data analysis using advanced functionality within Microsoft SQL tools (SSRS/T-SQL), Crystal reports, Epic Systems reporting tools. Tableau / Power BI a plus.

  • Integrate visual analytic techniques into reporting to enhance end users understanding of information.

  • Prepare and present concise executive summaries to explain findings, limitations and recommendations based upon actionable insight.

Manage projects and requests to provide Home Department members with access to clinical, quality/outcomes, operational and financial data, whether directly from systems of record or through intermediary systems.

  • Manage projects and requests to build eRecord functionality and optimize workflow process to support data analytics (10%)

  • Develop Data Visualizations as required (10%)

  • Develop daily, weekly and monthly action plans communicating status on requests (10%)

  • Organize work to ensure program activities take place on time and within budget (10%)

  • Collect and organize data necessary for program evaluation (10%)

  • Develop and recommend program / process improvements (10%)

Design and deliver training to Home Department teams to increase their capacity to utilize Epic data for quality and operational improvement, cost reduction, and research purposes.

Provide direct consultation and services to Home Department teams in the context of specific projects to enable collection of, access to, and utilization of data for quality, operations, finance and research purposes.

Participates on eRecord and other URMC information systems committees and works directly with eRecord team members to advance Home Department programs and projects.

Develop and provide expertise to support data analytics collaborations across URMC and other institutions.

Participates in Home Department staff meetings as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering ; and 4-5 years of related experience, preferably 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.


  • Area of study focusing on Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Analysis

  • 5 years MS SQL programming experience

  • 5 years of report development experience (Crystal Reports, Tableau, Power BI preferred)

  • Experience with Epic reporting tools and Epic Foundation System reports and related application(s)

  • Experience working in healthcare sector

  • Highly organized with proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, and manage time effectively

  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills, written and oral

  • Ability to lead meetings utilizing effective meeting management methodologies

  • Experience with enterprise data governance programs and infrastructure

  • Project management knowledge
