University of Rochester ED - Emergency Department - RN Exempt - Proficient in Rochester, New York

The ED Communication Nurse (EDCN) is the RN liaison between members of the state and local healthcare communities and the Emergency Department. The EDCN receives, assesses, manages, and triages all clinical information from Emergency Medical Services/Division of Pre-Hospital Medicine, physician offices, nursing homes, and outside hospitals for both adult and pediatric patients to expedite patient throughput. The EDCN is responsible to assess patient needs and oversee the inpatient transfer from outlying facilities to the Strong Health Care System (SMH/HH). Daily ED information is tracked such as PCP triage, transfers admissions, level of care information, and patient location. EDCN serves as consultant/liaison for transfer coordination. EDCN collaborates with the ED Team, physicians, agencies, institutions, and the community agencies to expedite patient through put.
Requires a Diploma, Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing Program and an active New York State RN license in good standing. Applicants will have a minimum of 6-12 months of RN experience. This position assumes the charge nurse role, actively participates in unit/service activities, supports co-workers, and assesses unit needs.
