The UR Medicine Epilepsy Center offers comprehensive epilepsy care, and is the only certified, level 4 Epilepsy Center in the region. The division has treated thousands of people with epilepsy since 1989, helping many of them to attain better management of their seizures and enjoy normal, active lives. The division strives to improve a patient’s life (including employment, driving and personal well-being) by identifying, in children and adults, their particular type of seizure, so they can develop an individualized medical and/or surgical treatment plan.
Their experienced epilepsy specialists include pediatric epileptologists (pediatric and adult neurologists with specialized training in epilepsy), researchers, general neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, and specially trained nurse practitioners, nurses and technologists.
The division offers an ACGME-accredited epilepsy fellowship program based at the UR Medicine Epilepsy Center and Pediatric Epilepsy Program, Level 4 National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Their strength is their multidisciplinary team including adult and pediatric board-certified epileptologists, neurosurgeon, psychosocial team, and dietician. The center is housed within Strong Memorial Hospital in its academic neurology department widely regarded as one of the top Departments of Neurology in the country. The division’s clinical and investigative interests include global health, treatment of seizures in brain tumor patients, and surgical and alternative therapies for the management of epilepsy.
We are seeking an expert in the field of epilepsy who is also a physician leader with the creativity and drive to create and enhance world-class programs. As well as an inspirational leader who can artfully convey a long-term vision for patient-centered clinical care, medical education & training, quality & patient safety, and research, yet is equally skilled at operationalizing a detailed plan to achieve those goals; an “out-of-the box” thinker who is energetic but pragmatic and results-oriented. We are also seeking a mentor with a track record for successful faculty development who will foster a culture of engagement and leadership in cutting-edge research.
The successful candidate will have completed an ACGME accredited epilepsy fellowship and be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. The incoming Director will lead a pre-eminent team that includes regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized specialists in epilepsy, clinical investigation, data science, and basic science, among others. URMC is one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. It forms the centerpiece of the University of Rochester’s health research, teaching and patient care missions.
