The Primary Care Network is a University of Rochester network of individual primary care practices (composed of General Internists, Family Physicians, Medicine-Pediatric physicians, Pediatricians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) who collectively provide care to 250,000 patients. Practices and the patient base extend across six counties, extending south to the Pennsylvania border, west to Genesee county, and east to Wayne county. Patient care is delivered across 43 practice sites and virtually via a new telehealth program. A total of 175 physicians and 85 Advanced Practice Providers are employed in the Primary Care Network.
The overarching purpose of the Primary Care Network, whose faculty comprise physicians in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Med/Peds and Pediatrics - is to improve the health and wellness of our patients. We achieve this by providing care that promotes the quintuple aim of improving population health, enhancing the care experience, reducing costs, addressing clinician and staff wellness and advancing health equity. All physicians hold University of Rochester School of Medicine faculty appointments.
All Primary Care Network practices are accredited as Patient Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The Primary Care Network is part of Accountable Health Partners which is a clinically integrated network of hospitals and physicians affiliated with the University of Rochester.
UR Medicine seeks a dynamic primary care physician leader with strong clinical and business skills and a proven ability to lead by example to position the Primary Care Network for success in the rapidly changing ambulatory environment, while supporting the clinical, educational, and academic missions of the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Goals and Objective
The principal goals and objectives for this position include:
Lead strategic planning and growth of the Primary Care Network. The director will assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to primary care and develop a forward-looking plan to improve performance and increase the number of patients cared for in the Primary Care Network.
Advance the clinical quality and operational efficiency of the Primary Care Network. Building on a solid base of high quality and outstanding patient satisfaction, the director will further improve quality and optimize the operational efficiency of the practices.
Engage and align faculty and staff by creating a robust team-based culture where individuals and teams thrive, and people find joy in their work.
Recruit and retain clinical faculty and staff. The director will work with departments and UR leadership to recruit and retain high-caliber faculty, APPs and staff.
Promote excellence in teaching medical students, resident physicians, APP students, nursing students, and other primary care health profession students in the region.
Explore innovative models of health care delivery.
Responsibilities
Provides overall clinical and business leadership to the Primary Care Network.
Develops and executes the Primary Care Network strategic purpose, mission, and vision.
Spearheads growth of the Primary Care Network through acquisitions and recruitment.
Collaborates with the Chief Administrative Officer to develop annual budgets, improve business performance, and deliver against key performance indicators.
Maintains and develops quality improvement programs to optimize patient safety, service excellence, and clinical outcomes.
Optimizes the Primary Care Network value to the UR Medicine system.
Serves as the spokesperson for Primary Care Network with media community organizations.
Work with the regional hospitals’ leadership to assist in the development of primary care practices within the regions that their institutions serve
Continue and expand pilot research initiatives, including clinical research
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate:
Is highly respected as a clinical, strategic, and operational leader with a proven ability to advance the Quintuple Aim.
Has experience as a physician executive responsible for practice development, provider recruitment, mentoring, clinical quality assurance, and financial performance.
Will demonstrate a track record of successful interactions across the healthcare system with specialists, hospitals, academic departments, and accountable care organizations.
Possesses knowledge and familiarity with team-based care including working experience with APPs.
Is experienced in the medical education of medical students and residents.
Is a board-certified physician (MD or DO or equivalent) in either Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Medicine-Pediatrics with preferably 10 years of experience as a health care leader/administrator.
Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
New York State Medical License or ability to obtain one.
The successful candidate will hold a primary faculty appointment with the department and rank to be commensurate with area of expertise and experience.
Division of Responsibility
This is a full-time position, with 50% allocated to administration and 50% to patient care in the Primary Care Network.
Reporting
The Director of the Primary Care Network is a Department Chair-level position and reports to the Dean and CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center. This position works closely with the Chair of the Department of Medicine, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, and Chair of Pediatrics.
Positions that report to this role include the clinical leadership of the Primary Care Network and the Chief Administrative Officer for Primary Care.
Committee Membership
Committee membership will include URMFG Executive Committee and Chair’s Advisory Committee, as well as the opportunity to serve on other hospital and URFMG committees.
The Director of the Primary Care Network is a member of the Primary Care Service Line Executive Team. The service line is currently comprised of the Primary Care Network, Highland Family Medicine and the General Medicine Division of the University of Rochester. The goal of this entity is to become the primary care system of choice for patients, faculty, trainees and staff while improving performance through collaboration and strategic planning.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $157,700 - $326,543 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
