Director of Research Integrity

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position serves as the key individual responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring of, and compliance with regulatory requirements and integrity activities, including research misconduct, responsible conduct of research (RCR) training and education, and conflict of interest for faculty, researchers, staff, and students.

The Director may also serve as the research integrity officer for research misconduct investigations.

This is a 100% FTE position.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training and Education

  • Develops and promotes responsible conduct of research (RCR) training – and potentially other related activities or trainings – for faculty, researchers, staff, and students. Ensures that such training meets federal sponsor requirements (e.g,. National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation) and is implemented on an institution-wide basis - with strong input from stakeholders (as identified above) and in coordination with Dean’s Offices.

  • Fosters a culture of compliance and integrity for scientific, research, and/or other scholarly research conduct.

Misconduct

  • In collaboration with Office of Counsel, receives and evaluates allegations of research misconduct, and manages the further inquiry and investigation into these allegations as each specific case requires. When necessary, interacts with federal sponsors and funding agencies in relationship to allegations, inquiries and investigations. Manages communication with internal stakeholders/leadership (where appropriate)

  • In collaboration with Office of Counsel, devleops written policies and procedures for responding to allegations of research misconduct and reporting information about that response appropriate parties.

  • Provides guidance, information, and education to faculty, researchers, staff, and students regarding the interpretation and implementation of the regulatory requirements related to research misconduct.

  • Attends national workshops and meetings related to research integrity, networks effectively with peers, and serves as a source of current information and emerging directions in this domain.

Policy Compliance

  • Identifies gaps across the University and creates guidelines/policies pertaining to research integrity and/or compliance where necessary.

  • Serves as the subject matter expert and provides advice to faculty, researchers, staff, and students reporting research integrity/compliance concerns, including concerns reported to the University’s Integrity Hot Line.

  • Maintainins currency on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to state laws, federal regulations, and national trends influencing issues of research integrity/compliance.

Conflict of Interest

  • Serves as the key individual to aid the deans in the administration of conflict of interest related to research activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: reviewing and evaluating annual reports of outside financial interests, developing conflict of interest management plans, serving as the subject matter expert to Deans, University leadership, faculty and staff, and revising/creating policies and processes as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A masters degree or terminal professional degree required.

  • 8 years of experience in higher education or equivalent, with at least 3 years of experience working in research and/or research compliance (including research misconduct, responsible conduct of research and conflict of interest) required.

  • A current and in depth understanding of the regulatory environment governing the conduct of academic research required.

  • The ability to work with diverse constituents required.

  • Experience convening and coordinating committees and working groups required.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a close attention to details required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $120,600 - $180,900 Annual

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
