Responsibilities
- Purpose and Scope
The position will provide management and leadership over the physician compensation function at University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group (URMFG). Responsibilities will primarily focus on the administration of physician compensation through plan development, implementation, and ongoing operational management. The position will, under the direction of the URMFG Chief Financial Officer (CFO), be involved in all aspects of physician compensation determination and supervise contract administration, regulatory compliance, and fair market value assessments.
+ + Compensation Plan Administration (40%)
Leads the development of physician compensation arrangements that align with organizational objectives and meet regulatory requirements.
Is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing policies related to physician compensation methodologies.
Oversees (in coordination with the URMFG CFO) compensation governance committees and periodic review processes.
Develops and supervises reliable, timely, and efficient processes for managing physician compensation arrangements.
Develops management tools and metrics to monitor the performance of physician compensation relative to the budget.
Provides routine reports and support to physicians and other relevant stakeholders regarding compensation levels.
Is available to educate and answer questions regarding changes to compensation methodologies and/or regulations.
Manages resources, including operating budget and staff.
Compliance (30%)
Collaborates with legal counsel and URMFG leadership to ensure observance of organizational policies, Stark law, Anti-Kickback legislation, etc.
Is a subject matter expert for the organization regarding rules, regulations, standards, and emerging trends impacting physician compensation arrangements.
Organizational Leadership (30%)
Serves as the primary point of contact for the organization related to physician compensation and contract administration.
Oversees and is responsible for the professional development of managers and analysts who are under direct supervision.
Exhibits professional behavior and represents the organization’s mission and vision in all interactions.
Educational Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s is preferred. The candidate must have an educational background in business administration, finance, or healthcare administration.
- Work Experience Requirements
An ideal candidate would have:
At least 8 to 10 years of work experience in financial analysis, accounting, or a related field.
2 to 3 years of physician compensation experience, with a demonstrated knowledge of regulatory issues related to physician compensation.
2 to 3 years of management experience.
3 to 5 years in a healthcare setting.
Knowledge and Abilities
The candidate must demonstrate the following:
Knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and legal requirements for physician agreements.
Ability to maintain relationships with all stakeholders, including physicians, hospital and medical group administration, and compensation staff.
Effective people management skills.
Clear written and verbal communication.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Capability to analyze and present complex data to a variety of audiences.
