Director of the Center for Community Health and Prevention and Dean’s Professor
The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is seeking a dynamic, highly accomplished Director of the Center for Community Health and Prevention (CCHP) and Dean’s Professor. This individual will oversee and expand the Center’s portfolio of highly successful research programs and established prevention and health programs in the community that are aligned with the UR Medicine network. For over 15 years, CCHP has collaborated with its partners to improve the health of our community. Through research, disease prevention and healthy living programs, education, and policy initiatives, CCHP works to create environments that support healthy lifestyles. With a staff of over 75, and $4.5M in federal research grants, the Center encompasses a wide variety of programs and initiatives aimed at preventing disease to create a healthier community. The Director will be expected to take a health leadership role in the URMC and the regional community, collaborating with community-based organizations and the Monroe County Department of Public Health.
Opportunity Highlights:
Expand CCHP’s local and national models for prevention and community engagement, aligned with community priorities especially related to the prevention of communicable and chronic disease.
Continue robust and nationally recognized CDC- and NIH-funded research programs, with opportunities for further extramural funding
Expand programs that make CCHP a central hub for the improvement of community health, performance of community engaged research including communicable disease surveillance and chronic disease prevention, and furthering training for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, and faculty members of URMC.
Partner with University leadership to lead transformative initiatives in community-engaged health and prevention research across the University of Rochester enterprise.
Grow and expand CCHP’s highly productive partnership with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, (including Population Health, Community Engagement, Informatics and the Office of Health Equity Research), the University of Rochester Medical Center Quality Institute, Department of Public Health Sciences, the Monroe County Department of Public Health, and many other community organizations
Expand a faculty cohort of Prevention researchers, advancing translational scholarship and practices that address racism and health inequities.
Serve in the leadership of the community-embedded clinical prevention program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Continue to expand CCHP as the central resource for community-based Prevention Research, providing support and guidance to faculty, staff and researchers across the University.
Expand the CCHP research portfolio, including the Communicable Diseases Surveillance and Prevention and Emerging Infections Programs
Continue to strengthen CCHP’s highly successful collaboration with community-based organizations in the Rochester region. Identify local community needs and tailoring research initiatives and prevention programs to address gaps, and disseminate successful methods and programs locally, regionally, and nationally.
Integrate the Center’s unique patient care Prevention programs, based on Self-Determination Theory, throughout UR Medicine clinical care network.
Continue a highly integrated partnership with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, including leadership in the Population Health Branch, the Community Engagement programs, and the CTSI Office of Health Equity Research to translate research into effective community prevention interventions that promote health equity.
Work with the UR Medicine Quality Institute to expand programs designed to enhance dissemination and implementation of new clinical disease prevention and treatment modalities.
Advance local health policy by convening and coordinating the Community Health Improvement Workgroup (CHIW) and taking an active role in implementation of the Community Health Needs Assessment.
Oversee education programs to train the next generation of health care providers and researchers in prevention, including student training and community-engaged research training.
Extend CCHP’s national reputation as a leader in the discovery and implementation of preventive and interventional measures that increase community health.
The director will have a primary academic and clinical appointment within University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), in a department that corresponds to their area of clinical practice or research specialization.
Requirements:
M.D., Ph.D., DNP or equivalent advanced degree
Must meet faculty appointment requirements at University of Rochester, SMD, at the Professor rank.
Extensive experience in community health prevention with a strong track record in epidemiology research and highly successful research funding.
Proven Leadership skills for a large, multi-faceted, and innovative research program.
Extensive experience with community engagement and community-based prevention.
Eligibility for New York State professional licensing for providing clinical care preferred.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 31,200 - $500,000 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
