Under the general direction of the Clinic Administrator and/or Director, supports the clinical operations of the dental clinic. Provides oral health care taking into consideration a patient's emotional and physical status, including oral health education, treating incipient and advanced cases of dental diseases and the application of preventative therapeutic agents as necessary under the guidelines set by the NYS licensure.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Specialty and general dentistry instruments such as x-ray units, ultrasonic cleaners, autoclaves, pulse oximeter, dinamapp B/P monitor, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer and spore testing equipment.
Obtains a comprehensive medical and dental health history. Does a complete assessment of the patient including; oral facial examination, oral cancer screening, oral hygiene status, caries examination, probes for and assesses periodontal disease and occlusion evaluation. Assesses the need for medication and preventative therapeutic agents.
Develops a program plan with individualized instruction in oral physiotherapy and bacterial plaque control. Reevaluates oral health and dietary counseling.
Monitors patient hygiene recall.
Acts as a co-therapist with the post doctorate residents in periodontal treatment planning.
Documents health assessment, treatment plan, treatment rendered and existing conditionals of intra and extra-oral structures. Administers prophylaxis, provides root planing, polishes teeth, applies topical and therapeutic agents, including sealants. Assess the need for radiographs and acts as a co-therapist to in reviewing radiographs and charting of hard and soft tissue. Administers fluoride therapy.
Cleans and disinfects operatory after each procedure, disposes of hazardous waste according to the EIOH policy.
Graduate of an accredited program in Dental Hygiene and 2 years experience in Clinical Dentistry and Periodontics. NYS License in Dental Hygiene or limited Permit required. Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures and computer experience preferred.
