Under the general direction of the Licensed Lead Dental Assistant, performs a variety of clinical and clerical tasks in support of clinical care activities in a dental outpatient environment.
Implements standard infection prevention measures such as proper hand hygiene and surface decontamination in accordance with EIOH infection prevention policy.
Anticipates day to day activities, including armamentarium, specific equipment, material and supply needs for patient and provider to ensure smooth operations and patient safety. Considers and prepares for the complexity of each visit and /or procedure and the time frame required so that the patient schedule may be maintained or modified as needed.
Implements standard clinical safety measures such as Patient Identification Verification of all patients
Performs basic dental laboratory procedures such as model pouring for dentures and partials
Maintains inventory of clinic equipment, instruments, and supplies and assists with requests for replacement and repairs. Maximizes room utilization through inventory, stocking, cleaning of operatories and daily preparation of dental units.
Notifies provider of patient arrival. Escorts patients from the waiting room to the operatory at check-in, and from the operatory to the receptionist at check-out. Maintains neatness of the waiting room.
Enters patient data into the electronic medical record. Reviews discharge instructions with patient as prepared by provider.
Provides assistance for non-ambulatory patients as necessary with the use of the Friends of Strong wheel chairs.
Performs telephone outreach activities to reschedule patients who may be due for appointments or have missed a previously scheduled appointment. Maintains accurate demographic information in the scheduling system.
Performs other daily clerical duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Collects data for quality improvement and other departmental studies. Supports and assists in research activities as directed.
High School diploma or High School student in good academic standing with a valid work permit. Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
