Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE :

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Marketing , the Associate Director of Advertising and Creative (AD) leads and oversees the strategic development of effective creative messaging at the brand, campaign, and individual tactic levels to support the URMC strategic plan. Oversees the production of final creative concepts and the planning and implementation of paid message placement efforts. Provides strategic oversight and direction related to the activity of the concept development and copywriting, Design Studio, and visual and audio production staff.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Working with minimal guidance from the AVP, and with substantial latitude for independent judgment, the Associate Director:

  • Works collaboratively with the Marketing Strategist and Communications teams to lead the development of creative strategy and brief development.

  • Collaboratively directs external agency partner(s) to develop recommendations for message placement across traditional and digital media.

  • Presents final paid media campaign plans with budgets for review and approval of the Communications leadership team and any internal URMC leadership as necessary.

  • Leads the development of creative concepts, both written and visual, that align with the approved creative strategies and briefs. Oversees concept refinements.

  • Presents final creative messaging concepts for review and approval of the Communications Leadership team and any internal URMC leadership as necessary.

  • Directs the overall process of video production. Develops storyboards/scripts/written treatment from the approved concepts. Oversees the production of final print, visual and audio elements.

  • Oversees the quality control, legal review and proofreading process for all work to be produced and ensures a documented process for all final and approved work to be produced.

  • Oversees the post-production process including editing, sound design, music procurement, special effects/animation and final mixing and color correction.

  • Works with the Communications Team to ensure that the creative concepts and media plans and strategies align with, are informed by and contribute to the work and programs across all of Communications. Develops processes to ensure communication strategy and plan execution is appropriately managed.

  • Provides input into capital and/or operational budgets consistent with the strategic objectives of URMC. Helps develop and manage the annual budget for the Creative team and ensures budgets assigned for Marketing and Communications plans and campaigns are met.

  • Provides leadership, supervision and coaching to Creative Team staff. Manages HR needs of the department and staff including, but not limited to: approving hiring decisions, training, ongoing supervision, personnel issues and actions, and conducts performance reviews.

    REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor’s degree in communications, advertising, marketing, or related field that includes some writing experience required; 10 years of experience in a strategic communications or creative director role required, 15 years of experience preferred; health care experience, especially in an academic medical center setting preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and ability to manage HIPAA consent authorization process for stories involving a patient’s personal health information. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills; comfortable talking to all levels of faculty/staff, and in front of groups.
