Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE:Administers occupational therapy treatments following an Occupational Therapist's evaluation. Monitors and documents patient's progress.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs occupational therapy treatments to patients on caseload, as directed by the Occupational Therapist, including occupation-based activities, functional activities, preparatory methods and education. Works with Occupational Therapist on treatment planning and oversite of patient progress.
Assists the Occupational Therapist with components of the evaluation (when deemed competent to do so), including assessment of self-care skills, as well as specific patient factors such as strength, range of motion, coordination, vision and more as defined by the occupational therapy practice framework
Instructs patients in self-care and home management activities, including feeding, dressing, bathing, toileting, home management skills and other activities of daily living. Educates and instructs patients, families in exercises and treatment and attends family conferences as directed.
Documents patients¿ progress and responses to treatment in the medical record.
Prepares, sets up, cleans and maintains treatment area and equipment. Observes safety precautions regarding all phases of treatment. Takes inventory and monitors supplies.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of adaptive and mechanical equipment required. Certification from the American Occupational Therapy Association and licensed by the New York State Department of Education as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant required.
