Communications Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Responsible for the development and implementation of communications materials at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE). The Communications Specialist will work closely with researchers and publications staff to transform high-level scientific content into scientific communications that are clear and accessible to a broad audience and promote the mission and vision of the laboratory.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writes compelling content that synthesizes complex scientific concepts to share with a broad non-specialist audience for internal and external publications and the web.
Works with leadership to identify strategic priorities, audiences, and goals and crafts content that promotes those priorities and aligns communications strategies to LLE’s mission.
Helps identify narratives that showcase initiatives, programs, and key priorities for LLE; faculty, staff, and student accomplishments; and research and scholarly work that advance LLE’s reputation as a world-class laser facility and national innovation hub.
Consults with colleagues in University Communications to ensure messaging is in alignment with strategic priorities.
Applies analytical skills to improve content performance and delivery by evaluating metrics such as search engine optimization.
Coordinates with other communications professionals across the University to share content.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, developments, and best practices in science communication and public relations.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field required; 2 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience; Required knowledge, skills
and abilities: Excellent organizational, project management, outreach, critical thinking and problem-solving skills; Exemplary verbal, written and presentation communication skills; Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment; Ability to develop creative ideas, while retaining focus on the overall organizational objectives.
