Child Life Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Child Life Coordinator, the Child Life Specialist will conduct child life assessment and intervention for pediatrics patients being cared for in the Pediatric Surgical Center. Works directly with patients, families, and staff to facilitate age appropriate interactions, increase effective patient/family coping, and promote optimal development of children in PSC.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to provide preparation and procedural support and utilize therapeutic activities as diagnostic and treatment tools. Supports families in the care of pediatric patients. Is an active member of the healthcare team that enhances quality of care and acts as an advocate and resource regarding issues related to the development and psychosocial needs of children. Supervises volunteers and Child Life interns as requested. Child Life Certification eligible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Child Life or related field. Previous experience in supporting children in a hospital setting preferred.
