GENERAL PURPOSE :
Plans and directs the patient care and administrative operations of the Orthotics Lab.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Under general direction and with latitude for independent judgment:
Develops and implements services in response to physician and patient need.
Develops and implements Departmental management objectives.
Develops and monitors the Department’s budget and manages the expenditure of the Department’s resources.
Prepares, maintains and evaluates Departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures appropriate supervision, orientation, in-service and evaluation of professional and support staff consistent with University and Hospital policies and procedures.
Maintains a quality assurance process to ensure delivery of optimal patient care.
Ensures compliance with JCAHO and governmental requirements.
Provides direct patient service when necessary. Designs, fabricates and fits orthotic appliances where very complex prescriptions are involved, or unusual or imaginative devices are required.
Evaluates the appropriateness of the Department’s equipment and makes recommendations for the replacement of obsolete equipment.
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with referring physicians and other Hospital departments to ensure optimum patient care and efficient delivery of service.
Ensures appropriate use and growth of the Department’s services through marketing of programs to patients and physicians.
Develops and participates in educational programs for other health care professionals at the Medical Center.
Collaborates in research studies conducted within the Medical Center in the field of Orthotics.
Attends and participates in professional meetings to keep abreast of developments in the field of Orthotics.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of orthotics clinical experience, including 2-3 years of supervisory experience in orthotics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in Orthotics by the American Board of Certification.
