Chief of Cardiology

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Department of Medicine is seeking a Division Chief of Cardiology to oversee the growth of the division’s established programs and the expansion and management of the Cardiology Division at URMC and all affiliated hospital sites.

The incoming leader will participate in direct patient care and will play a key role in the advancement of clinical, research and education missions of the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Medicine. The incoming Chief will also work closely with the leadership of the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) to foster translational research.

The chief must be committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion through the recruitment, education, and mentorship of faculty, staff, residents and fellows.

Department of Medicine - Division of Cardiology

The Department of Medicine is proud to be the most prominent academic and clinical department at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The Department includes 13 divisions committed to compassionate clinical care, educational excellence, and innovative research. The team comprises nearly 500 faculty members, over 200 advanced practice providers, 200 residents and fellows, and 800 staff.

The Division of Cardiology provides leading-edge cardiology care, combining the most advanced subspecialty expertise with cutting-edge technology with an emphasis on access, quality, and equity. The Division of Cardiology offers state-of-the-art services by nationally known physicians with the highest levels of training and the most regional experience. The division currently has 80 faculty physicians and 90 advanced practice providers who provide cardiac services at 6 hospitals in a catchment area that extends beyond the Pennsylvania state line to the South, into Vermont to the East and beyond Buffalo to the West. They provide services to over 98,000 outpatient visits annually.

The Division of Cardiology is part of the Cardiac Care Service Line. This Service Line is co-directed by the Chiefs of the Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Divisions, the Operations Director, and is overseen by a Joint Operating Committee. The Service Line oversees a Regional Shock program providing comprehensive care, including ECMO, LVAD, and Transplantation. This program is supported by the region’s only acute shock transport team. The LVAD program is ranked in the top five programs annually.

The Division of Cardiology includes 9 clinical divisions: 1) clinical cardiology, 2) cardiac electrophysiology, with three dedicated EP laboratories, 3) interventional and structural heart, with four dedicated catheterization laboratories, 4) advanced heart failure and transplantation, 5) cardio-oncology, 6) echocardiography, 7) nuclear cardiology, 8) clinical trials enrollment unit, and 9) cardiac rehabilitation.

The Division has $34 million in clinical research funding and is internationally recognized in sudden death, hereditary ion channelopathies, and implantable devices. The CVRI has $15 million in funding focused on basic research in vascular and cardiac biology and inflammation.

As an academic center, the faculty members participate in basic and clinical research in cardiovascular diseases to explore more effective treatments and allow patients access to national clinical trials. The Division also offers fellowship training in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, heart failure, and transplantation.

Requirements:

  • Must possess an MD degree or equivalent

  • Must obtain NYS Medical licensure before starting

  • Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry

  • Board Certified in Cardiology

  • Post offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required

  • Criminal background check required

  • Compliance with University and New York State health requirements

Pay Range

Pay Range: $317,278 - $505,615 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
