Cardiac Critical Care (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) - APP FELLOWSHIP - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

Responsibilities

The APP Fellowship in Cardiac Critical Care is a 1-year post-graduate specialty training program for strong PAs and NPs with a desire for Cardiac Intensive Care. The program is both clinical and didactic, focusing on both Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology with the UR Cardiac Care service-line. The fellowship Program includes a core program of Cardiac Critical Care, Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Shock. Several rotations meant to enhance the core CICU provider education include in depth, hands on training in all aspects of Mechanical Circulatory Support (VA/VV/RVAD ECMO, LVAD, RVAD, Impella, IABP), Cardiac Catheterization & Electrophysiology Labs, Echocardiography, Advanced Heart Failure (Heart Transplant and LVAD), among others. The NP/PA Fellow will provide Cardiac Critical Care for adult and adult congenital Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology patients in the UR CICU and Cardiac Care service-line. Our NP/PA Fellows will work collaboratively with Cardiac Critical Care Intensivists, Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiologists, the PA/NP groups, as well as nursing staff. Excellent communication and teamwork required. NPs require a Master’s degree (or pending) as an Acute Care NP, an active/pending NYS licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as an NP; min of 3 years of experience as an RN (strongly prefer 5) with at least one year of leadership experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. PAs require completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, New York State licensure in good standing/pending and current/pending certification by the NCCPA. APP Fellows will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relations skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training. Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Requires a Master's Degree in Nursing or related field and an active New York State license in good standing. Applicants will have 5 years experience as an RN with one to three years of leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner influences the quality and delivery of care in various roles including consultant, researcher, mentor, and practitioner. This role may be unit, program, or service based and is involved in continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Physician Assistant

Completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program, licensure in good standing, and certified as a Registered Physician Assistant. Demonstrated clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. This role may be unit, program, or service based and is involved in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
