Independently, is responsible for service on low and medium risk equipment as described in the URMC Environment of Care "Medical Equipment Management Plan". Under minimal supervision, is responsible for service on selected high risk and life support equipment as described in the URMC Environment of Care "Medical Equipment Management Plan". Position involves preventive maintenance, safety inspection, calibration, installing, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electromechanical and electronic devices, training peers and other technicians. Position requires servicing equipment in both the hospital environment as well as at numerous offsite locations. Individual must be willing to work in close proximity to patients and staff in intensive care units and operating room settings. Position must have the ability to interface with all the members of the Clinical Engineering team effectively. Individual must have excellent customer service skills.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Under supervision of Clinical Engineering Senior Leadership and with daily direction from the Team Leader.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Computers with general office products, as well as custom equipment database management software. Electronic test equipment, such as: multimeters, oscilloscopes, counter/timers, digital pressure meters, physiological simulators, devices designed for testing specific medical equipment performance parameters, etc. Hand tools especially those required for equipment servicing and repair. Machine tools such as drill, drill press and grinder.
Performs safety/preventive maintenance inspections and services electronic and electromechanical biomedical equipment, to determine operational status and compliance with manufacturers and industry technical standards and specifications. (25%)
Installs, maintains and calibrates electronic and electromechanical biomedical equipment according to manufacturer's specifications. (25%)
Troubleshoots, isolates equipment malfunctions and repairs electronic and electromechanical biomedical equipment. (15%)
Responds to operator complaints about equipment malfunctions, often involved in correcting operator errors. (10%)
Performs equipment modifications when instructions, diagrams, prints, or schematics are provided for technical guidance. (5%)
Maintains electronic medical equipment management database files for compliance with Accreditation requirements. (5%)
Instruct other technicians in preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment. (5%)
On-call responsibility. (5%)
Other duties as required. (5%)
Short notice/planned overtime to meet compliance requirements.
AAS degree in Electronic or Instrumentation Technology with particular emphasis on Biomedical Engineering Technology and two to three years of experience that is closely related within a hospital, the military or any other comparable organization or an Equivalent combination of education and experience. Must hold valid Driver’s License and have means of transportation to service offsite locations.
Able to read schematics and mechanical diagrams, basic computer skills and advanced networking and system integrations a plus.How To Apply
