University of Rochester Asst Professor in Rochester, New York


The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester (URMC) School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY, is currently recruiting for an academic surgical pathologist with fellowship training and/or experience in surgical pathology and cytopathology. The successful applicant will have MD or equivalent and be board certified in AP or AP/CP. The anticipated rank is open, commensurate with experience.

The Department currently accessions over 65,000 surgical/biopsy cases per year through a recently renovated Surgical Pathology suite, which won a New York State award for its design. The Division of Surgical Pathology has undergone a transition to a sub-specialty sign-out practice model. Cytopathology is a rapidly expanding division with an active fine needle aspiration program and an ambitious outreach program.

The Medical Center has a highly collegial environment with many opportunities for collaboration and is rapidly expanding its active research programs. The Divisions of the Departments of Medicine and Surgery have funded investigators who are keen to collaborate with pathologists in clinical and translational studies. Furthermore, there are multiple opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of clinical initiatives through interactions with Medical Center faculty in the Cancer and other Centers with interests in cancer biology, immunology and genetics. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a program in applied, translational, or basic research.

Opportunities for teaching are ample: we have an ACGME-accredited cytopathology fellowship and a non-ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship position in surgical pathology in addition to rotating pathology residents and medical students.
