Responsibilities

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center is seeking a board certified/board eligible general neurosurgeon with a primary clinical interest in simple and complex spine surgery to join the URMC Neurosurgery faculty, to live and practice in the Elmira - Corning region and the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and to assist our Department as we build our regional clinical Neuroscience programs.

Our Department has developed a growing regional neurosurgery practice which is staffed by three full time faculty members who live and practice in the beautiful finger lakes region of Upstate New York near Rochester. These three faculty members live in the Ithaca - Elmira - Corning region and practice either at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY or at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. We are developing an integrated practice between these two locations which will allow us to provide the best patient care and to provide a satisfying career focus for our regional faculty. These faculty are valued members of our Department and while the majority of their practices are regional in nature, all faculty are encouraged to participate in selected Departmental events including our quarterly Departmental retreats, QA and regional strategic planning meetings held in either Rochester, Ithaca or Elmira. Interested faculty may participate more actively in Departmental education, clinical and research programs as dictated by their personal career interests.

The new neurosurgeon will enjoy a full time faculty position at the University of Rochester, a highly supportive Departmental and local hospital administration which will assist him/her in developing a strong elective clinical practice. A recently constructed and well staffed outpatient clinic in Big Flats, New York is 5 miles from Arnot Ogden Medical Center and will provide the primary outpatient clinical practice location. This clinic is staffed with a practicing neurologist, an experienced nurse manager, 3 Neurosurgery APPs, 2 LPNs and 4 administrative staff to assist in practice management. This Big Flats, NY outpatient clinic is a URMC Neurosurgery run clinic which uses EPIC as the outpatient EMR. Our Department works hand in hand with the leadership team at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and their employed PCPs, physical therapists, pain management providers and marketing team, all of which facilitates the growth of a busy elective Neurosurgery practice. All spine surgery at Arnot Ogden is provided by our neurosurgeons with no orthopaedic spine practices in the region.

Arnot Odgen Medical Center is a 256-bed hospital part of Arnot Ogden Health System a three hospital system in the Twin Tiers region of New York State, and has a total of 809 licensed beds, including 493 acute care, 231 long term care, 40 physical medicine rehabilitation, 25 psychiatric and 20 substance abuse rehab.
