The mission statement of the School of Medicine and Dentistry notes that the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is dedicated to training future physicians who excel and become leaders in their profession. This goal is met by fostering the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors of our students as outlined in our overall objectives for the M.D. degree. In our educational process, we recognize the importance of rigorous natural and social sciences together with humanistic values to developing and practicing physicians. The Double Helix Curriculum—Translations and Transitions fully integrates clinical and basic science training throughout all four years of medical school and is a 21st Century expression of the bio-psychosocial approach developed here.

The Associate Dean for Admissions is a dedicated professional with demonstrated success in developing and executing strategies and solutions to attract and admit a talented and diverse student body at the URSMD. She/he/they provides the strategic direction and leadership for a results-oriented admissions program of considerable skill and innovation that is consistent with the goals and mission of our University. The Associate Dean for Admissions leads the design, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the medical student admissions process. The Associate Dean for Admissions has a strong commitment to applicants from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds to meet the goals and missions of the school and the medical center. The Associate Dean for Admissions monitors admission related policies and procedures in keeping with state and federal laws and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation standards and elements. She/he/they leads a broad range of recruitment activities including attending recruitment fairs and visiting pre-health advisors at select colleges and universities to foster relationships with the School of Medicine and Dentistry. The Associate Dean of Admissions works with pipeline programs, early decision programs and postbaccalaureate programs to support the active recruitment of students well suited for our institution. The Associate Dean for Admissions will represent the school nationally in organizations and at meetings such as the Northeast Consortium on Medical Education and pre health care advisor meetings American Association for Medical Colleges Committee on Admissions .The Associate Dean has active roles in multiple organized events at the medical school and for alumnae affairs and advancement.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Student Education and leading the staff in the Office of Admissions, the Associate Dean for Admissions serves as the chair of the Admissions Committee fostering an open and collaborative environment in the selection process. She/he/they is responsible for working with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Student Education and Department Chairs to identify and recruit individuals to serve on this committee. The Office of Admissions is responsible for the training of committee members and individuals who interview applicants. Additionally, the Associate Dean for Admissions oversees a periodic review of the pre-requisite courses and experiences required of applicants to the URSMD.

The Associate Dean for Admissions serves as a voting member on the Curriculum Steering Committee (CSC) and ex officio member of the First and Second Year Instruction Committee, Third and Fourth Year Instruction Committee and a non-voting ex officio member of the Medical Student Promotions and Review Board (MSPRB).

The Associate Dean for Admissions must hold an advanced degree (MD, DO, or PhD) and qualify for a faculty appointment at the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the rank of Associate Professor or higher. The primary appointing department and other (non-dean) duties will be determined based upon expertise, interests and funding.
