Assistant Scientist
Rochester, NY
Responsibilities
The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at the University of Rochester is a unique national resource with a premier high-power laser facility for research in inertial confinement fusion (ICF), high-energy-density physics (HEDP), and basic science.
The Plasma & Ultrafast Laser Science & Engineering Division at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) seeks candidates at the Assistant Scientist level who can contribute to the development of new science campaigns using the unique laser capabilities at LLE, who can bring new capabilities to ongoing national inertial confinement fusion and ultrashort pulse physics missions, who will conduct experiments and/or perform simulations using the facilities at LLE, the National Ignition Facility, and other international laser facilities. In addition to an excellent understanding of plasma physics, the successful candidate should have good interpersonal skills, a willingness to work in a team, and the ability to communicate well in writing. Assistant Scientists are typically recent Ph.D. graduates that have demonstrated expertise by publishing their graduate research in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to applying online, qualified applicants should submit a dossier that includes a cover letter outlining how the applicant sees himself/herself contributing to the research project, a curriculum vitae and a list of publications. The applicant should also arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to LLE. All materials should be sent to the attention of:
