GENERAL PURPOSE :
Provide leadership for and oversight within the Quality Improvement Department of Patient Safety & Loss Prevention, and Workplace Safety initiatives. Continues as patient safety nurse for a priority clinical service.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Under general direction and with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative:
Serves as the MCIC Patient Safety Nurse for a priority clinical service with general direction from MCIC leadership and the appropriate SMH Department Chair/Chief.
Works with general direction from the URMC based MCIC Associate Chief Medical Officer for Patient Safety & Loss Prevention, the URMC Chief Healthcare Safety Officer, and the.URMC Chief Quality Officer.
Coordinates and supports patient safety and loss prevention initiatives. Works to develop and integrate linkages between MCIC, the Hospital and UR Medicine system-wide initiatives.
Coordinates and focuses on meeting or exceeding the Hospital’s strategic quality goals for areas of responsibility.
Works with Associate Quality Officers and other Assistant Quality Officers to ensure that respective areas are integrated effectively.
Works closely with other MCIC funded staff including patient safety nurses and the perioperative project manager.
Performs activities as triaged or delegated.
Participates in SMH and/or Medical Center teams or committees charged with patient safety and loss prevention efforts.
Facilitates and provides analytic support to assigned Quality Councils and chartered improvement teams.
Collaborates with others both locally and nationally, including MCIC, to help advance patient safety & loss prevention as well as workplace safety at University of Rochester Medical Center.
Promotes formal and informal approaches to improving quality by demonstrating continuous quality improvement in daily work, modeling the use of quality tools and processes, and serving as a quality coach to others in the organization..
Bachelor’s degree in health related field with 4-5 years of relevant management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification in patient safety (CPPS or equivalent).
Pre-existing role as MCIC funded SMH Patient Safety Nurse.
