University of Rochester Assistant Professor (Non-tenure) in Rochester, New York

Goergen Institute for Data Science

The Goergen Institute for Data Science seeks to fill an Instructional Faculty position in Data Science with a start date of preferably Spring 2021. This Faculty position is not a tenure eligible position. These are 2-year appointments initially that are renewable to longer term engagements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach entry and advanced level courses for master’s level students in Data Science. Immediate need for topics of courses include applied machine learning, database systems and management for data science that can serve as core courses. Opportunities exist for developing and teaching additional courses in areas of data visualization and exploratory data analysis, Text Analytics & Social Media Mining, Human-centered Data Science, and Optimization for Data Science. Some of these courses may be cross-listed to include undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to new initiatives including online data science programs, professional graduate programs and expand existing certificate programs working collaboratively with industry stakeholders, faculty and university administrators to understand unmet needs aligning with appropriate university resources.
  • Participate in department education initiatives such as student advising, serve as advisor/mentor for capstone projects, serve on admissions committees for graduate program admissions, collaborate with design and revision of curricula.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a strong background in Data Science and a Ph.D. in a related field including but not limited to Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, as well as experience in and knowledge about graduate teaching and curricular issues.
