Responsibilities

The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (URSMD) Office for Medical Student Education (OME) seeks an energetic, accomplished leader to serve as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) for the MD program. We welcome candidates with demonstrated expertise in leadership who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our medical school community.

The ADSA serves in a leadership role in the SMD Office of Student Services and is responsible for the management of medical student enrollment, maintaining and implementing student affairs policies, and overseeing the implementation of University policies for the URSMD MD program. The ADSA works in collaboration with the Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, and the Office of Medical Student Inclusion and Enrichment Programs (OMSIEP). Providing support to faculty, advisors, and students, the ADSA oversees the academic support programs (including tutoring, board preparation, ADA accommodations). The ADSA functions as the primary support person for the Medical Student Promotions and Review Board (MSPRB), a leadership committee responsible for monitoring the academic performance of all students while matriculated in the medical school, while on leave, and while on Student Fellowships. The ADSA serves as the NBME Institutional Official for USMLE Certificate of Prior Accommodations. In addition to reviewing and interviewing applicants to the MD program, the ADSA serves as a voting member of the Medical School Admissions Committee.

The ADSA co-chair for the medical school wellness and resilience committee and provides oversight to medical student career counseling and coaching. With support from Student Services Administration, is responsible for planning and executing numerous events including Orientation programs, White Coat Ceremony, Match Day.

Working with directors of various areas of Student Services and the Advisory Deans, the ADSA oversees the medical school Student Council and Special Interest Groups/Clubs. The ADSA represents the medical school on university committees and serves as the school’s representative to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Student Affairs (GSA and other national organizations and committees.

To interface successfully with medical students, faculty, and staff, the candidate must qualify for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. Candidates must also have at least 5 years of experience in medical education, demonstrative success in collaboration, a strong work ethic and experience in leadership and supervisory roles. The candidate must possess exemplary communication, writing and organizational skills. The ADSA will hold a primary faculty appointment in a medical school department, with the department and rank to be commensurate with area of expertise and experience. The ADSA role will comprise an appropriate portion of a FTE to include clinical, teaching, scholarship, and/or other duties individually negotiated with the primary department.
