General Purpose:

With considerable latitude and room for independent judgment, develops and implements an entire strategic plan and budget for Young Alumni fundraising as part of the Class Affinity team in Annual Giving Programs (AGP), in direct support of our institutional priority to increase alumni participation in giving. While keeping current with trends in the industry oversees engagement partnership with Alumni Relations, social media, email outreach, texting platform, and crowdfunding programs to meet the overall development plan. Serves as a main contact point for young alumni fundraising initiatives, including partnership with the Senior Gift effort, and assists with developing strategies for the 5th and 10th Reunion classes. To maintain continuity across units, will partner with Eastman School of Music Advancement staff to coordinate student and young alumni solicitation strategies and marketing efforts.

Specific Responsibilities:

40% Young Alumni Giving

  • In conjunction with the Senior Director, and collaboration with Digital Strategies and Communications teams, creates customized tactical strategies, and overall marketing plan and collateral for all young alumni solicitations and communications within Annual Giving Programs; including but not limited to: AGP-focused schools/units/departments, the George Eastman Circle, Young Alumni Giving Societies, Rochester Loyal, and the 5th and 10th Reunion.

  • Strategize and implement Young Alumni annual giving campaign for digital, direct mail, phone, text, social, and other mediums to meet donor participation goals. Work in collaboration with partners across Advancement, and closely with Senior Director. Ensure appropriate stewardship for Young Alumni takes place.

  • Works with University partners, with a specific focus on partnership with Alumni Relations and Student Life, on various fundraising initiatives. Build/maintain relationships with various University partners who can help communicate young alumni marketing needs and strategize how they can impact the overall campaign goals to increase young alumni giving participation.

    30% Graduating/Senior Class Giving

  • Provide direct support to the Senior Gift campaign to create a seamless experience for donors from their Senior Year through their transition to alumni. Serve in partnership with Alumni Relations team to establish goals, manage a fundraising challenge, assist with overseeing senior gift volunteers, conduct training and gift review, ensure stewardship for senior gift donors, and attend in-person donor/stewardship events as needed.

  • Partner with ESM Development team to support their efforts educate and encourage donor participation from the graduating class. Provide a template and guidance on marketing materials, including print pieces, emails, and social media platform management to help provide continuity with River Campus approach. Attend in-person donor/stewardship events as needed.

    15% Student & Student Affinity Giving

  • In collaboration with Alumni Relations, assist with educational events for students (beyond the senior class) about philanthropy (i.e. I Heart UR, UR Home, Forever Rochester Week, etc.).

  • Align with the Alumni Relations team, Wilson Commons Student Activities, and other campus clubs and organizations to support the strategic plan for affinity-related student group fundraising.

  • Assist Associate Director of eSolicitations with designing Community Funded crowdfunding pages for specialized student campaigns as needed.

    15% General

  • Make decisions on marketing communications and solicitation emails, with no room for error, to represent the University to current and potential future donors. Help create and upload written communication for letters and direct email copy. Control pictures, graphs, format, and information to be included in solicitations. Maintain the Young Alumni portion of the overall AGP solicitation calendar and provide regular analysis and reporting on this constituency.

  • May occasionally supervise students or temporary staff.

    Perform other responsibilities as assigned.


    A Bachelor’s degree, as well as 3 years of professional experience preferably with marketing and/or fundraising experience. Familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe creative products as well as iModules desired. Candidate must be well organized, possess excellent communication and analytical skills and follow through with tasks, and writing ability, as well as the ability to work within a complex organization. Must also have the ability to take initiative on projects and stay updated on ever-changing technology, best practices in Advancement among peers and through CASE, the professional Advancement organization, and be aware of the best marketing strategies for this constituency.
