POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide clerical and technical support for department’s clinical staff. Greets, directs and assists patients, visitors and other members of the University community. Informs patients and others of departmental and University policies and procedures. Answers telephone, take messages, registers patients, schedules appointments, signs in, checks out and bills patients for their visit or supplies. Takes and records vital signs, documents medical information, completes medical forms and requisitions, sets up stocks and cleans examination rooms, performs various diagnostic and lab procedures, performs phlebotomy. Maintains a working knowledge of procedures at the Medical Center Office and the River Campus Office.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Processes patients from waiting room to exam room. Takes and records patient’s chief complaint and necessary vital signs, such as weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, pain assessment and eye examination. Completes corresponding paperwork and supplies and needed forms and equipment by providers
Maintains providers’ patient schedules. Updates changes, informs patients and providers of delays and informs those providers behind schedule the number of patients waiting. Anticipates needs of patients and providers and reacts accordingly. Works one on one with an assigned provider(s) but has the knowledge and the flexibility to work with additional providers or other providers.
Sets up, stocks and cleans examination rooms. Maintains adequate level or forms, medical supplies and pamphlets in exam rooms. Cleans boarding and straightens waiting room. Inventories storage and supply areas, orders, receive and restocks supplies; checks their receipt. Keeps specialty trays stocked with appropriate supplies and medications. Notifies appropriate staff if supplies are low. Prepares instruments for sterilization and checks for their return.
Reviews medical charts for completeness and performs quality improvement activities. Makes suggestions for potential activities needing review. Has the ability to report inefficiencies in processes and can make suggestions for improvement.
Assists in orientation and training of new Medical Office Assistants and student interns and serves as a resource for Medical Office Assistant I’s.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma required
Associates degree preferred
One year of experience in customer focused/service setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures and computer experience preferred.
Phlebotomy skills preferred

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 17.00 - $ 22.10 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
