Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Administrator of Quality and Safety coordinates and facilities activities to support quality and performance improvement for the Department of Surgery. This position works closely with the Director of Quality/Safety and Department Chairman to lead the Department of Surgery’s efforts to maintain the infrastructure and standards to ensure that the surgical care provided within the Department is safe, high-quality, cost-effective and reliable care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance/Process Improvement: 45%

  • Provides oversight for the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of the Department of Surgery’s QA/PI Program

  • Responsible for the development of Department of Surgery’s annual QA/PI Plan and goals ensuring coordination with the Hospital’s strategic quality goals.

  • Serves as the Department liaison to the Hospital’s Quality Assurance Office, represents the Department on selected Hospital Quality Councils and committees

  • Develops mechanisms to improve surgical quality, patient outcomes and safety using evidence-based medicine, data-driven metrics and principles of performance improvement, project management and Lean.

  • Assists with coordination and facilitation of Department Quality meetings and conferences.

  • Fosters education on QA/PI, coordinates work and provides support to Division QA Liaisons.

  • Oversees the ERAS Program for the Department of Surgery.

    Clinical Databases: 30%

  • Responsible for the oversight of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Programs (NSQIP) and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) clinical database for Thoracic surgery and serves as consultant for any issues related to the Division specialty Clinical Databases.

  • Supervises data collection efforts, responds to reporting queries, manages data analysis using information from multiple sources and monitors data to detect trends and quality or safety concerns.

  • Leads Department/Hospital response to any outcomes needing improvement.

    Regulatory: 20%

  • Represents the Department on RCA teams and regulatory surveys/reviews.

  • Oversees Department/Division responses to patient complaints/grievances and Intradepartmental Quality Reviews,

  • Ensures compliance with credentialing overseeing OPPE/FPPE requirements and maintenance of physician quality files in accordance with regulatory standards.

    Other Duties as assigned: 5%

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years relevant experience including at least 2 years at a managerial level; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Master's degree, equivalent course work, or specialized experience in an appropriate field related to the assignment is desirable.

  • Previous experience in Quality/Performance Improvement or Quality Assurance preferred.

  • Experience with MS Office and use of MS Excel or data analysis is desirable.
