**JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

2. Maintains records, reports, and inventory. Coordinates consent and assent; administers individual interviews, surveys, and experimental protocols. May assist with the development of research protocols including literature reviews. Performs general data collection during research studies. Records experimental data; collect/ tabulate/ calculate data. Prepare solutions.
3. Assists with purchasing routine lab supplies, collect receipts and monitor expenditures, installs, maintains and repairs general equipment; may do design modifications and fabricate mechanical or electronic equipment depending on area of assignment.
4. May provide general support and supervision of lower level technicians.
5. Work closely with staff to understand the principles of compliance, confidentiality, and other ethical obligations involved in conducting research.
6. May assist faculty and students in the use of equipment. Administers experiments as needed and provides some analysis and interpretation of results as appropriate.
7. Keeps current with industry standards, best practices and trends in health sciences. Attends/participates in weekly lab meetings, and, as appropriate, institutes and seminars.

**Responsibilities:**

This is a Technical position within the Loiselle Laboratory in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research.
The job consists of laboratory work using complex genetic mouse models, cell culture systems and molecular biology techniques to understand tendon biology and healing. The successful candidate will have some experience with molecular biology or related techniques, outstanding organizational skills, careful attention to detail and strong communication skills. This position involves mouse colony management, mouse recovery surgery (flexor tendon repair), tissue harvest and sample processing (preparation of mouse tissues for histology and biomechanical analyses), molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, etc.), cell culture skills (mammalian cell culture, transfection), and data analysis/interpretation. , Hours of the position are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday (flexible), work on limited weekends may be required. NOTE: This document describes typical duties and responsibilities and is not intended to limit management from assigning other work as required.
**Responsibilities :**
+ Manages the mice used in the lab including routine and non-routine breeding colonies, tissue collection and other experiments as needed. This will involve performing specialized procedures on mice, and maintaining records, data collection, and analysis
+ Performs PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, or related techniques and cell culture
+ Participates in weekly lab meetings and relevant seminars, including regular meetings with the PI to review data, propose experiments and discuss analysis.
+ Maintains standard protocols, troubleshoots, and modifies them as needed
+ Assists in the management of the laboratory's reagent inventory, including reagents necessary for day-to-day laboratory operations; keep research supplies stocked.
+ Prepares schematics, specifications, designs, etc.; makes recommendations regarding them. May review work of less experienced staff, such as graduate and undergraduate students. Helps to orient new lab staff to the lab.
+ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
**Qualifications:**
+ BS/BA degree with research experience/technical knowledge of cell culture as well as basic molecular and cellular techniques is preferred
+ Candidate must be willing to work with mice
+ Ability to adjust research priorities as needed and be willing to present, discuss, and troubleshoot data with the PI and co-workers
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
+ Experience in Microsoft Office is required
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Position Summary:**
The technician will provide research support the goals of an immunology laboratory aimed at understanding the mucosal immune responses. As part of this position, the technician will participate in maintaining germ-free (microbiologically sterile) and conventional mice and work with the Principle Investigator (PI) to develop novel strategies to study mucosal immune system. This work will involve the planning and execution of experiments involving the use of mouse models. The Laboratory Technician will use existing protocols and will collaborate with other laboratories. Techniques frequently utilized include PCR, ELISA, and cell purification.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Responsible for germ-free mouse colony maintenance including breeding
+ Mouse genotyping using PCR, RT-PCR or flow cytometry
+ Serve as interface between lab and vivarium; troubleshooting and resolving issues with rodent colonies
+ Participate in weekly lab meetings and relevant seminars, including regular meetings with the PI to review data, propose experiments and discuss analyzes.
+ Assist in the management of the laboratory's reagent inventory, including reagents necessary for day to day laboratory operations; keep research supplies stocked.
+ Oversee maintenance, management, and/or repair of equipment; coordinates ordering of supplies and equipment and trains people in the appropriate use of equipment.
+ Monitor and ensure training and compliance with Environmental Health and Safety – Occupational Safety Unit, Safety Training for Research Laboratory Personnel requirements specific to laboratory for all laboratory personnel. Ensure that health and safety practices are maintained in accordance with University

**Qualifications:**
Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ BS/BA degree in biochemistry, biology or chemistry with some research experience in a related field preferred.
+ Ability to work with rodents and human samples.
+ Ability to adjust research priorities as needed and be willing to present, discuss, and troubleshoot data with the PI and co-workers.

**Position Summary:**
Responsible for mouse colony management including breeding, genotyping, organization of multiple transgenic mouse colonies, working with the vivarium, and maintaining mice for experiments. Responsible for lab ordering, stocking lab supplies, and managing associated paperwork. Responsible for awareness and implementation of laboratory safety procedures along with the making of stock solutions, maintenance of laboratory equipment, training of lab personnel for skills needed to assist on projects, and cleanliness of the lab. Also expected to assist with various projects in the lab through data quantification, and using skills such as tissue collection, immunochemistry, immunofluorescence, microscopy, and tissue morphometric analysis. Previous experience and/or willingness to work with mice an asset. Ability to work in a lab team environment with a diverse group of personnel is essential.
**Responsibilities:**
In accordance with broadly-outlined objectives, requirements and approaches, will plan and conduct technical procedures, non-routine and complex in nature. Sets up and operates state-of-the-art equipment or instruments. With latitude for modifying methods and techniques, will analyze data, prepare reports, present data at laboratory meetings, and make recommendations. Will be responsible for ordering laboratory supplies and interacting with vendors. Will organize and manage mouse colonies. Will work with computers, scientific software, Excel, Word, etc.
+ Breeding of mouse colonies. Maintenance and breeding of multiple lines of wild-type transgenic mice. Responsibilities include generation of ear punches and tail snips, maintaining breeding records and setting up weekly breeding schedules.
+ Mouse genotyping. Responsibilities include PCR analysis of genomic DNA obtained from ear punches and tail snips, as well as detailed record-keeping of mouse genotypes in laboratory database.
+ Molecular, biochemical and cell biological experiments. Work in an independent manner with minimal supervision, perform standard molecular biological experiments including cDNA purification, cloning, PCR amplification, restriction analysis, etc. Perform tissue sectioning, immunofluorescence and other cell biological experiments. Assist projects involving mouse tissue and cultured cells.
+ General laboratory maintenance. Order supplies and work closely with departmental administrative office staff on purchasing and account issues. Prepare common reagents, train other laboratory workers, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in relevant laboratory techniques and equipment use. Provide support and technical assistance on experimental problems that may arise during the course of their experiments. Maintain functionality of lab equipment, as well as the overall organization of the lab, and comply with all institutional laboratory safety procedures. Maintain careful laboratory notebooks, analyze data on PCs, and design new protocols.
+ Research Analysis, Presentation, Searches. Prepare literature searches as needed. Analyze and present findings to PI and/or in laboratory meetings.
**Qualifications:**
+ Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; B.A. or B.S. degree in Biology, or other appropriate discipline strongly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness and ability to work with mice is required.
+ Strong computer skills, including experience with scientific software, Excel, Word, etc.
+ Ability to work in a lab team environment with a diverse group of personnel is essential.
+ Ability to work with minimal supervision once trained and to listen to, convey, and exchange information with other laboratory personnel.
+ Requires the use of eyes, hands, and fingers with skill and the ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra and practically apply percentages, fractions, and ratios.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal; follow instructions; and record information accurately.
+ Must have excellent interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail.
+ This position may entail prolonged periods of standing and walking and requires the safe use of toxic chemicals.
+ License/Certification Required: Institutional certification for laboratory personnel (e.g., laboratory safety training, vivarium, etc.)
