General Purpose

Manage and oversee the daily operations, implementation and oversight of supply chain operations and insures inventory management procedures are maintained in accordance with best practice standards. Works directions with the Director, lab supervisors, and finance leadership of Clinical Laboratories & Supply Chain to set priorities and implement problem solving initiatives. Directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of fiscal and operational improvements to ensure accomplishment of customer service, delivery standards, and lab expense mgt. goals for SMH. Designs and directs measureable supply chain performance indicators for Clinical labs for review by SMH executive leadership. Supervises and directs day-to-day Clinical Laboratories supply chain staff that are responsible for maintaining centralized inventory, shipping and receiving, ordering, and instrument repairs. Will ensure optimum levels of responsiveness, appropriate inventory levels, and ongoing communication are maintained at all times with Clinical Lab customers, all relevant end users, manufacturers, and suppliers. Provide technical expertise in the design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and delivery of customized data visualizations for Supply Chain operations.

Specific Responsibilities:

Participate in data analysis projects as assigned for the department, developing project plans and visualizations of high dimensional operational data. Work with Director, department managers and vendors to create and maintain dashboards and other data visualization as related to supply chain operational and financial goals. Participate in ongoing support and maintenance of data. Develop/Implement/Maintain a broad knowledge of technology and systems in relation to data management. Work with users to understand and document business requirements and provide translation of requirements into visualizations. Provide daily monitoring of data and distribution to appropriate parties.

Manages the implementation of PMM, Materials Management program, in accordance with Supply Chain best practice standards in the Clinical Lab environment. Establish and document procedures to support Supply Chain activities. Determine and appropriately maintain inventory levels to ensure sufficient product availability to clinical services. Provide training as needed in the creation, maintenance, and use of par forms, min/max and custom requisitions. Oversee and direct Supply Chain staff responsible for ordering and receiving to maintain minimum inventory levels that will meet lab customer service objectives.

Work in concert with Clinical Laboratories Director, Supervisors and finance leadership as well as staff, Corporate Purchasing and vendors to ensure optimal customer service to the labs. Establish and maintain optimal communication standards with these groups.

Oversee the development, analysis and distribution of key performance metric reporting of Clinical Lab supply chain management. Optimize capabilities of PMM, and other software programs to proactively assess measure and track Clinical Lab supply expenses. Provide reports and analyses for decision making and strategic planning.

Lead continual process improvement and cost reduction activities. Identify, recommend and implement solutions for problems relating to the product, process and/or ordering system

Oversee and direct lab vendor/Supplier performance objectives and activities, and quality control and the product recall process. Serve as the person responsible for carrying out the semi-annual physical product inventory for Clinical Labs as required by SMH Finance to meet cost accounting and regulatory requirements. Maximize contracting opportunities within GPO contract portfolio when deemed clinically acceptable and financially advantageous.

Supervise, evaluate, conduct disciplinary and hiring decisions for staff in the ordering & receiving areas. Oversee the training and development of staff to ensure current and future objectives are met.

Collaborate with Clinical Labs leadership to facilitate new product requests. Work with Corporate Purchasing to ensure the addition of appropriate new products into PMM Item File, Research, identify, and gain approval for back order substitutions.

Represents department in the Clinical Labs Steering Committee, RFP process with lab vendors, and operational meetings as required.


Bachelor's degree with major course work in social or technical field and some graduate level course work in that field (or library science or information science), and 1-2 years experience in the analysis and dissemination of information; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prefer Masters, 4 years of related experience and 10 years of managerial experience.

Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office software applications and

Extensive experience with performance measurement, analytics, finance and process improvement.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Clinical Laboratory supply chain experience is preferred.
