Full Time 40 hours Grade 007 Surgical Pathology SMH
Performs routine and non-routine duties requiring advanced secretarial and medical transcription skills and proficiency in an administrative office of an academic, medical, or business department. Strong transcription skills, including excellent spelling, medical terminology and grammar, and strong interpersonal/communication skills are essential. Performs an assortment of office duties to support the clinical mission of the unit including printing and collating pathology reports and requisitions, organizing slides and patient histories for interdepartmental specialty conferences, producing quality assurance statistical reports, accessioning outside slide consultation cases, greeting visitors, and other clerical duties as needed.
Supports the Surgical Pathology faculty, residents and technicians with the process of completing and distributing Surgical Pathology reports. Includes and is not limited to requests for faxing reports and documents to clinicians and consultants, respond to requests for sending slides to other institutions for consultation, prepare Federal Express packages, print and collate pathology reports and requisitions, pull slides and patient history for department conferences. Manages outside slide consultation requests including accessioning, labeling slides and assigning the case to the pathologist.
Accurately transcribe gross description and diagnosis for Surgical Pathology reports using computerized laboratory information system and voice dictation software.
Cover for receptionist during vacations and sick time.
Perform other duties as assigned by the chief supervisor.
AAS in Secretarial Science with 2 years’ experience in an office setting or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with advanced medical terminology. Experience transcribing voice dictation.
