The Department of Pediatrics has an opening for a Research Assistant Professor who will work with Dr. Michael O’Reilly, Ph.D. in the Division of Neonatology. We are particularly interested in candidates who have significant expertise in mouse genetics, heart development, stem cell biology, and genetic lineage mapping.

Qualifications: Doctoral degree with major course work, thesis dissertation, and prior peer-reviewed publications in biology, biochemistry or a related scientific field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience using modern molecular and cellular approaches to test hypotheses, ability to interpret data, and write manuscripts and grant proposals. The experimental methods employed include but are not limited to working with genetically modified strains of mice, processing tissues and imaging (electron microscopy, 3D laser confocal scans, echocardiography, tissue histology), DNA (sequencing, site-directed mutagenesis), RNA (RNA-seq, qRT-PCR, Northern blots), protein (Western blots, ELISAs, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation), and culturing cells and tissues. She/he will also be able to work collaboratively and interactively with other members of the laboratory and its collaborators.

Number of months/years of experience required after obtainment of highest degree:

The candidate will have at least 5 years experience after the highest degree earned.

Special skills required:

The candidate must have experience and be willing to work with genetically modified strains of mice.

Minimum Education Requirements - list level of education and field(s) acceptable:

M.D. and/or Ph.D.
