Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The ECM Support Associate works with the ECM Event Support Manager to provide technical expertise, and coordinate technical services for special events that take place on the University of Rochester’s River Campus. The Support Associate will work closely with the Manager to advise, train, and supervise the student technician staff. Additionally the Support Associate will assist the student staff in running larger events that include cultural programs, guest speakers and professional performers, as well as major all-University events, such as Convocation, Meliora Weekend, and Commencement

Primary Functions:

The ECM Support Associate, under the direction of the ECM Event Support Manager, works to implement technical support (portable and installed audio systems, projection, theatrical grade lighting, etc.) for programming by university student organizations, university departments and non-university organizations that use campus facilities. The ECM Support Associate will meet with clients to assess their technical needs, recommending and identifying the most appropriate solutions for their event scope and budget. They will also utilize the Event Management System (EMS) software as the method to track inventory, schedule spaces and technicians, and bill clients.

For programs, the Support Associate will demonstrate independent judgment and implement the most appropriate solutions for leveraging technology for a safe and successful event outcome. The ECM Support Associate is charged with training and knowledge shares across the department to best communicate institutional knowledge and best practices with ECM Event Coordinators and student workers.

The ECM Support Associates work closely with the ECM Event Support Manager and other ECM professional staff to supervise approximately 80 undergraduate workers. The undergraduates begin at different skill levels and are educated on ECM’s customer service philosophy. The ECM SA will assist in training the student staff to become proficient in the setup and use of complex audio-visual, lighting, and theatrical equipment in various venues across the River Campus.

Qualifications:

AAS in Audio-Visual Technology, 3 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer degree in Audio-Visual Technology, Theatrical Technology, or Communications, or 3 or more years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to understand the technological needs for a broad range of clients and recommend appropriate solutions. Ability to participate actively in a team to produce valuable results. Ability to learn new technologies quickly and to train others with best practices. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to independently lead small groups to effectively accomplish a task. Experience with Mac and Windows operating systems required. Experience with advanced event technologies including but not limited to live production design, audio, projection, and lighting. Ability to provide evening and weekend services as needed.
