University of Rochester Chair, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Rochester, New York

Opening

The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The Department, led by K. Rao Poduri, MD, since 2008, is a vibrant multidisciplinary group comprising six full- and part-time faculty members (including two neuropsychologists) and over 150 staff members. All enjoy close collaborations with faculty and programs across the Medical Center. Dr. Poduri will step down from her chair role at the end of her current term in 2018.

Clinical programs encompass a recently renovated, CARF-accredited 20-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation unit, a general hospital consultation service, outpatient clinics, and consultation services at a UR-owned skilled nursing facility. Hospital occupational and physical therapy services are based in the department, while other relevant services including speech therapy are also co-located in the medical center. Educational activities also benefit from the medical center’s pain treatment center and from a regional 25-bed brain injury unit. There are 12 residents in the categorical ACGME-accredited residency program, of whom approximately two-thirds go on to complete subspecialty fellowship training. Departmental activities benefit from foundation funding to support spinal cord injury programs and residency training. As well, the medical center provides an outstanding environment for collaborative basic and clinical research, with its Clinical and Translational Science Institute, top-quarter ranking in federal funding, and strategic research emphases in several relevant interdisciplinary areas including neuroscience and musculoskeletal programs. UR Medicine is uniquely poised to create an innovative integrated health care delivery system serving a regional population of at least two million people. The Rochester area enjoys economic stability and excellent cultural attractions, and is consistently rated one of the most livable cities in the U.S.

We seek candidates who are board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and have a strong record of administrative experience and leadership in the field. Candidates should have the outstanding leadership skills required to promote collaboration and excellence in patient care services, education, and research, and to foster programmatic growth in an environment that prizes teamwork, innovation, and mentorship. The candidate must qualify for appointment as Professor at the University of Rochester.

Inquiries should be addressed to the chair of the recruitment committee, Jeffrey M. Lyness, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, phone 585-275-6741 or email JeffreyLyness@urmc.rochester.edu. Applicants should submit electronically a cover letter and complete curriculum vitae to Dr. Lyness, and also apply online via the University Human Resources website at www.rochester.edu/jobopp.

The University of Rochester has a strong commitment to principles of diversity and inclusion, and in that spirit actively encourages applications from groups underrepresented in higher education.
