Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Advises undergraduate students in academic program planning; provides and obtains factual information with respect to registration in courses; assists students having academic difficulties; makes appropriate referrals. Actively involved in organizing the orientation programs for new students and their families.

Responsibilities and Job Requirements:

Under general direction and with latitude for independent judgment:

Advises undergraduate students in academic program planning, using knowledge of academic programs, courses, prerequisites, degree requirements, rules and regulations. Refers students to faculty or other offices for specialized help. Advises students about special academic opportunities. Provides support to students having academic difficulties.

Assists in the evaluation of transfer credit. Coordinates transfer credit processing for the intercollegiate registration program.

Processes International Baccalaureate exam grade reports for credit.

Provides assistance in updating office website.

Under the guidance of the director of Orientation, serves as a member of the Orientation team. Participates in planning and coordinating the College's orientation programs for new undergraduates and their families.

Under the guidance of the director of Orientation, serves as a member of the peer adviser program team. Participates in planning and coordinating hiring, selection and management of the peer advising program.

Maintains contact with faculty and departmental staff regarding advising programs and consults on individual cases as required. Keeps abreast of University, College, and departmental policies and procedures

Requirements and Qualifications:

Excellent organization, time-management, writing ability and interpersonal skills required. Desirable skills include familiarity with Macintosh computer applications such as FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience in web design/maintenance preferred. Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer Master's degree with two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
